2023 has already hit us with a number of challenges from rising inflation and rolling blackouts to soaring fuel prices. I think we can all agree that the stress is real. To help, I’ve put together three of my top stress-busting tips to keep you calm and carrying on:
1. One way to beat the blues is with barefoot grounding on the grass, accompanied by morning sun ray exposure. Research suggests that physical contact with the earth’s surface can help regulate our autonomic nervous system, which controls our immune system, heart and circulatory system. It also keeps our circadian rhythms synchronised with the day/night cycle to regulate body temperature, hormone secretion, digestion and blood pressure, among other bodily processes.
2. Sun gazing is a form of meditation that harnesses the healing power of the sun. This involves staring at the sun either during sunset or sunrise to connect with its energy. A benefit of sun gazing is getting some vitamin D which helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. It also increases melatonin for better sleep and raises serotonin which can impact memory and happiness.
3. The five Tibetan moves are a series of five yoga poses. It’s a traditional practice that’s been done for more than 2,500 years and the benefits range from a boosted circulation system and improved strength, to enhanced coordination and better sleep.
These tips may seem unusual but are effective, especially when life throws you curveballs.
